Sharing this recipe is an accumulation of knowledge from years of making smoothies! So please don’t bully me when I say it is so much more than just a smoothie recipe. When I was in my smoothie making peak, strawberry bananas were a hourly routine. At that time I was using a $2000 Stealth commercial grade blender, amounts of mainstream purees and faraway shipments of fruits frozen at their peak. Even so, this recipe matches that one in taste, and surpasses it in simplicity.
Healthy Alternatives
At 300 calories this strawberry banana is far from indulgent, and likely lower than any you can buy. However, if you’d like to use any milk alternative, such as almond milk instead, go for it! Adding a scoop of protein as well or whatever it is to match your goals, I highly encourage you to do so. The white sugar is more than half of the calories in this recipe! You can certainly use more honey and less white sugar if you’d like, but any of the changes will slightly alter the taste. Perhaps in a good way! Have fun.
Detailed Directions
- Ready the fruit: Remove the strawberry leaves and slice the frozen banana into fourths. If you do not have a frozen banana, simply add the same ingredients and add four ice cubes. If you have frozen strawberries instead of the banana, great! No addition needed. I prefer to freeze the banana instead of the strawberries because it blends a little easier.
- Add to the blender: Add all of the ingredients to the blender, adding the frozen banana last. I chop the banana into fourths. I add the ingredients softest to hardest to make it easier for the blender. For this recipe, I add the milk, the sugar and honey, then the strawberries, then the banana last.
- Blend the smoothie: Blend the smoothie until fully blended. If there is no smoothie option or high speed pulse button on your blender, simply blend on the highest setting until you see the smoothie is nice and combined. If you’re using ice, listening to the ice shard disappear will be the best indicator of when the smoothie is ready. This recipe will yield one tall glass. You are now ready to make the best strawberry banana smoothie ever! Enjoy.
